Miami Worker's Center workshop: Interpreting for Social Justice

The Miami Workers Center is hosting a 2-day workshop, Interpreting for Social Justice, August 12 through August 2011.Do you use multiple languages in your organizing and activism? Do you have a passion for empowering immigrants, and non-immigrants to participate in multi-lingual spaces? Do you enjoy facilitating alliance building across language communities? Then this training is for you.  

Interpreting for Social Justice

2-Day Workshop
August 12 - August 14, 2011 (Lunch is included)
521 NE 81st, Miami, Fl 33138

Suggested donation: $50

No one will be turned away for lack of funds.  Child care will be available

Proficiency in two languages is required.

This Workshop will: 
• Train interpreters who in turn can empower immigrant commuities by providing
   language accessibility
•  Encourage local leadership in immigrant communities through social justice interpreting
•  Create multilingual spaces where language is used democratically as a  
   movement-building tool

This Workshop will cover the following: 
Interpreter Role and Ethics
Use os equipment
Theoretical and political framwork
Impact of language barriers in social justice movement building
How to create a multilingual space
Hands-on intrepreting by participants
