by Alexander von Hoffman, Senior Fellow at the Joint Center for Housing Studies, Harvard University, entitled "Housing Matters: America's Quest for Decent Homes."
This lecture is the first in our Focus on Affordable Housing initiative for the 2011-2012 academic year. This initiative will look at both the historical and contemporary context for affordable housing, from both local and national perspectives. It will draw from models of what has been done well in the past, and will seek solutions for best practices from other cities across the country while recognizing the unique elements that shape housing policy and practice in South Florida. By combining courses, public programs, and community partnerships, the initiative is designed to foster a climate in which effective options for promoting housing affordability and accessibility in Miami can be thoroughly investigated and implemented.
