advocacy and your work

Yes, you should be advocating for change on many levels.

On September 17, 2009, While at the Miami-Dade County Budget Hearing, I spoke to a person who said that the impact of the budget will not affect him for the most part.  He was just a concerned citizen and wondered why more people (who were not part of Community Based Organizations) didn't come out to voice their opinions.   Unfortunately, I didn't stay to hear him speak, however he seemed to be interested in empowering (to a certain degree- through speaking for others and hoping to motivate others) other people to speak up, voice their opinions, and be heard at County Commission meetings.

In our reading from chapter 2, it said that high-impact nonprofits engage in offering direct service and advocacy on multiple levels.  We definately do this at CHI.  The organization was founded on the backbone of advocacy through Ms. Doris Ison, for whom our largest facility is named after.  We participate in advocacy on local, state and national levels.
